Sustainability Concept
Best Western Plus Hotel Arcadia, Vienna

As of October 2025
On the way to EU Ecolabel certification

1. Introduction & Vision

Sustainability is an integral part of our daily work at the Best Western Plus Hotel Arcadia—not just a goal, but an attitude. As a traditional city hotel in a central location, easily accessible by public transport and just a few minutes from Vienna's Prater park and city center, we want to show that comfort and environmental awareness go hand in hand.

We see sustainability as a promise to our guests, our employees, and our city. This promise means using resources carefully, taking social responsibility, and acting in an economically fair manner. By 2026, we want to achieve EU Ecolabel certification – as a visible sign of our commitment.

2. Our strengths and potential

In recent years, we have worked intensively to make our hotel operations more sustainable. In doing so, we have been able to build up numerous strengths: Our hotel is part of the Best Western Central Europe Group, which pursues clear sustainability goals and programs. We already have many resource-saving measures in place, such as LED lighting, water-saving fittings, and a virtually paperless administration.
At the same time, we are aware that a historic building presents special challenges. We are investing step by step in energy improvements, training for our team, and the expansion of regional supply chains. This continuously creates new opportunities to make hotel operations even more environmentally friendly.

3. Environment – Acting consciously in everyday life

Our commitment to the environment is reflected in many small but effective steps. We use 100% LED lighting and motion detectors in public areas to save energy. Our rooms are equipped with water-saving fittings, and cleaning products are selected exclusively according to ecological criteria.
Together with the Click a Tree initiative, we support global reforestation projects – over 5,600 trees have already been planted as part of the Best Western Forest Initiative. We also focus on green transport in Vienna itself: our central location allows guests to travel comfortably by train, subway, or bicycle instead of by car.
Future measures include switching to a packaging-free breakfast buffet, using even more regional and organic products, and optimizing our waste separation systems. Every decision—from purchasing to energy consumption—is made with sustainability in mind.

4. Social—Responsibility for people

For us, sustainability also means putting people first. Our employees are the heart of our hotel – their commitment, friendliness, and knowledge shape the guest experience. That's why we invest in fair working conditions, internal training, and a respectful, diverse working environment.
We support social projects such as the Best Western donation program “Der gute Bär” (The Good Bear) and are committed to the 2026 Special Olympics. We are particularly proud to train and inspire young people to pursue careers in the hotel industry – with a focus on sustainable working practices.
We actively invite our guests to be part of this approach: those who opt out of daily room cleaning receive Best Western Rewards points – a small contribution with a big impact. This creates a shared sense of responsibility.

5. Corporate governance – clarity and values

Integrity, transparency, and fairness are the foundations of our corporate governance. As part of the international Best Western family, we are committed to the Code of Conduct and act in accordance with the United Nations' 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
We maintain long-term, responsible relationships with our suppliers and ensure transparent, sustainable supply chains. Our goal is to choose partners who share our values and work with us to bring about positive change in the hotel industry.

6. Goal: EU Ecolabel 2026 – Our path to the future

We want to obtain the EU Ecolabel by 2026 – not as an end goal, but as a milestone on our path to greater sustainability. This includes expanding our organic breakfast offerings, a comprehensive training program for all employees, and further optimization of our energy efficiency.
We are convinced that sustainability is the result of many conscious decisions. With every step we take, we want to show that responsible business practices and genuine hospitality complement each other – for the benefit of our guests, our team, and our environment.
